My recital is set

Saturday April 19 2008

Cooper’s Oboe Recital (Non Degree)

When: Tuesday, May 20th, 7pm

Where: Central Presbyterian Church, Main Sanctuary, 15th and Patterson.

What:

  • Tomasi×Evocations
  • Telemann×d minor Tafelmusik Quartet
  • Saint Saens×Sonata for Oboe
  • Hanson×Pastorale
  • Hindemith×Sonata for Oboe

The purpose of this recital, as my professor explained, is to get some “oboe standards” recorded “in concert” and to push my comfort level out the window. I personally think the Tomasi single-handedly does that, but what’s one or five solo pieces now and then?

Just out of curiosity, does one play such a recital without music?

Hi Cooper,
I’d really like to hear one of your concerts sometime.  An
invitation would be most welcome as long as it’s not on a
Tuesday night, but I might forgo orchestra rehearsal to see you
play.
Thanks

Hi Bautbois, Thanks for the note. One most definitely plays this music WITH music. I might be inclined to play one piece without music, but that’s a lot of pieces with a lot of notes, and it’s perfectly acceptable to play with music.

Judy, Unfortunately this is on a Tuesday, but I hope you can make it.

Ben, it’d be great to have you! Funny how things come full circle, eh? I still remember going to your recital! Hopefully Dr. Moore will come as well, so you can catch up with him.

I’m still impressed! That’s a lot of phenomenal music.  As one who was never really trained to play from memory, I think it would be a real challenge under pressure (unless you just have one of those brains that can soak up music like a sponge).  Hey, I’d definitely attend your recital if you weren’t 3000 miles away!

Speaking of memorization, how about memorization AND choreography?  Check this out:

First off, I misread the first comment. Reading “without music” not as in “without sheet music” but just that there would be no music (sound!) at the recital, if you know what I mean. I’m weird that way. wink

Wish I could go, Cooper. May 20th I’ll be playing a musical (Beauty and the Beast). Oh well.

Do you want me to post the recital announcement at my site? I will only do that with your permission, okay?

Bautbois, that is certainly impressive! To memorize a part of a score, and to top it off, it’s Ligeti… Amazing!

This is quite cool too, but it’s not music.
Check it out!
