While making reeds…

Friday July 04 2008

I watch TV. Sports are always good. Reality shows are usually fine too. I’d probably get more out of audio books, but TV is more available.

And since I make a lot of reeds, I’ve watched a lot of TV. All of the American Idol seasons. Eli Stone. Desperate Housewives. New Amsterdam. Chuck. Project Runway. Prison Break. Rome. First 7 seasons of CSI…. Then sometimes I download some oldies. Wonder Years. Twin Peaks. Nowadays, I have found that Netflix has online movies/tv shows you can watch via streaming! Currently I’m watching Quantum Leap season 4. What a great show, eh? Ranks right up there with the Wonder Years for me.

I know the standard rule is most people listen to music while making reeds but does anyone else do something different? Anyone have suggestions of movies/tv shows for me to watch? Most of the good TV shows (Lost, 24) I take the time to actually sit down and watch it.

Oh yeah, foreign films don’t work so well. Too many subtitles to read while concentrating on a reed.

I don’t watch TV while mauling reeds (no TV in practice room), but I do watch TV while scrapbooking (which is also hand- and knife-intensive).  My daughter owns all the “Friends” episodes, which I really like so I watch them.  I also hate to admit this, but I love “The Waltons”, and will watch that while scrapping too.

I listen to talk radio..you can still focus 99% of your thoughts on the reeds!

Cooper,

Check out NCIS on CBS Tuesday nite. David MacCallum, who played Ilya Kuriyakin on The Man From Uncle years ago, is the coroner: Dr. Mallard (aka “Ducky”) Reason I’m telling you this is that it is, first & foremost, a crackerjack of a show & David is an oboist in real life. I do indeed break from making reeds to catch these episodes, although during concert season my symphonic band rehearsals are on Tuesday, 7-10 PM. Darn.

Best,

john

For me, its the news.  With 2 young kids running around my house, I know the state of Sesame Street & Dora the Explorer at all times, but reed time is the rare time when I get caught up on the real world on the news.

If you’re a fan of British comedies I recommend Little Britain on netflix watch-now =) However, I do warn you that it can be a tad inappropriate at times ! Go ahead and give it a try

Sometimes on USA, especially in the summer, there is an all day NCIS (really great show that completely trumps all CSI type shows)marathon. They are past seasons, but since you haven’t seen it at all, it won’t be a problem.
